Welcome to La Femme Rose
Welcome to La Femme Rose. I started this blog as a place to write and discuss current events and how they interrelate to what is happening in government, spirituality, health & wellness, business and even fashion (because I’m a great believer in how we look helps us in all other aspects of our life – a point to be discussed more in future postings).
In this, my introductory post, I’d like to begin by addressing an important trend: women’s rights in the workplace. During the 2018 Academy Awards, two of the key spokespeople in the Time’s Up Movement – Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd – talked about what Time’s Up means and the focus of this movement. Allow me to paraphrase: Time’s Up is about creating a safe and equitable workplace. I really like that phrase. Having dealt with physical and sexual harassment when I was working in the ‘80s and ‘90s, I get where they are coming from. I don’t want women to have to deal with that same BS today. And I particularly understand pay equality as this was a common problem for women in the high-tech industry and a primary reason I started my own business in 1998. I have a daughter who is just starting her career and I want her to be safe, treated with respect and paid the same as anyone else doing the same job regardless of sex, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. I will be blogging about this topic regularly so stay tuned.
I would like to finish this introductory post with this: If we want men to stop misbehaving in the office, how do we define appropriate behavior? What are the new office place rules of engagement? I hope to receive feedback regarding this issue as I plan to compile a list for use by human resources departments and senior management teams, particularly in smaller businesses. who may not have the people or budget to do this type of research.
There is nothing more energizing than to begin something new. And now we have begun.
