Styling Lovely Ladies
Updated: Sep 26, 2019
Today I could have spent my time being angry about the shootings over the weekend. I am but I have written many blogs about what we need to do. But rather than packing for my exciting trip to LA on Wednesday (I will have several fun blogs on the fashions and experiences from this escapade), I want to tell you about why I so enjoy being a stylist.
I am working with a new client who is a lovely lady, a bit embarrassed that she doesn’t know how to put outfits together. That’s why stylists exist. Not everyone had a mother who sewed whatever clothes their daughter created and helped her learn what colors worked together and how to put an outfit together.
At the beginning of every school year, I used to look at the catalogs and the pattern books to see what clothes I wanted for school. Then we would select the materials and trims and mother would sew them up. I did that long after I could buy my own clothes because sometimes, I couldn’t find the exact thing I wanted so I would make a trip to mother’s with the pattern and material and she would sew it up. She always said I was a good seamstress, but I am too much of a perfectionist to sew my own clothes. It makes me too nervous that I will make a mistake. I am hoping my daughter picks up the banner and starts sewing for herself. She is more creative than me.
I still look at the trends every season and decide what new items I need in my closet or what needs replacing. To help another woman transform her closet into a place where beautiful ensembles come together that puts a big smile on her face and makes her feel beautiful is joyful. It’s why I love fashion.
Watch for reports coming from the style capital of LA.
