Cell Tower Safety
Updated: Sep 27, 2019
You may find this a rather odd topic for one of my blogs. I find it rather odd that this subject has recently taken over my life but that what happens when you find out your HOA has conducted secret meeting with your cell phone carrier, Verizon, to put a tower up within 400 ft. of your home.
While I don’t expect those of you to understand how this effects my life, but I believe you should take what is happening to me as a disturbing trend. Cell towers are going up everywhere and with 5G they will increase as this technology requires more towers closer together.
You should be concerned for two reasons: health and property values. The Federal Communications Commission has limited our ability to stop cell towers because our government’s regulating agency, has made sure health concerns aren’t addressed when cell tower applications are considered through the Telecommunications Act of 1996. This has stopped important health-related research. Fortunately, the World Health Organization has stepped in.
In 2011, the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer issued its decision that non-ionizing radiofrequency radiation is classified as a 2B (Possible) Carcinogen. This is the same category as DDT, lead, and engine exhaust. This mirrors the 2001 IARC finding that extremely low frequency (ELF-EMF) that classified as a 2B (Possible) Carcinogen. These two findings confirm that non-ionizing radiation should be considered as a possible risk factor for cancers. Finally, according to the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center, "Studies have shown that even at low levels of this radiation, there is evidence of damage to cell tissue and DNA, and it has been linked to brain tumors, cancer, suppressed immune function, depression, miscarriage, Alzheimer's disease, and numerous other serious illnesses." There's more data but I think that's enough to get the point across.
And then there’s the issue of property values. Even though the telecom industry has tried to disguise these towers, a survey conducted in June 2014 by the National Institute for Science, Law and Public Policy (NISLAPP) in Washington, D.C., “Neighborhood Cell Towers & Antennas—Do They Impact a Property’s Desirability?”, shows home buyers and renters are less interested in properties located near cell towers and antennas, as well as in properties where a cell tower or group of antennas are placed on top of or attached to a building. 94% of respondents said a nearby cell tower or group of antennas would negatively impact interest in a property or the price they would be willing to pay for it.
A Palo Alto community successfully stopped a proposed AT&T cell tower at a Catholic church. They cited a 20% drop in property values in other communities.
OK, that’s enough data for today but I just wanted to show you that you need to be concerned about what is going on. Cities need to establish codes that cell towers must be no closer than 1500 ft. from a home or school. Take that action. In addition, make sure that you keep cell phones, iPads and any other device away from your bedroom and your children’s. Try to keep technology contained to a designated place in your home. You may think I am being hysterical but I’m not. One of the reasons for my chronic insomnia was technology. My sleep is improving for the first time since 2005. My sleep doctor demands that I keep anything electrical away from my brain waves in order to sleep (ok TV still in bedroom so I’m not there yet).
I definitely notice how electronics affect my spiritual work. That’s why I like to do it up in the mountains as I am closer to clear energy and its easier to change my vibration levels.
I guess what it comes down to is we need to do a better job of protecting our heart and brains. We don’t want to end up like cigarettes when it comes to cell phone or the towers that connect them. We are already addicted to cellular technology and tools. Let’s make certain they can’t hurt us.
