Fashion Awards for the 2019 Oscars Red Carpet
Updated: Oct 2, 2019
This year’s Oscars red carpet was absolutely amazing. I don’t really have any misses to talk about based on what I saw. This blog is about what great trends there were that anyone can incorporate into her wardrobe.
To begin, silver and tulle remained the trend all the way to the end of the awards season. I have just recently reviewed some of the ready-to-wear collections for spring and silver is showing up in pants, dresses and jackets. But the number one color at the Oscars was pink. Gemma Chan and Kacey Musgrave killed it in bright and soft hues of the color. The second strongest color was definitely red, and I loved it on Jennifer Hudson and Linda Cardinelli. Then came the metallics which were shown beautifully by Jennifer Lopez and Michelle Yeoh.
The break-out item was pants which was shown in pantsuits such as the beautiful copper outfit worn by Jennifer Lewis, the black and white Brandon Maxwell jumpsuit Melissa McCarthy wore (the best I have ever seen her look at an awards show) and Amy Poehler’s black tux. Let’s not forget the hair style of the night, the low bun as seen on several actresses including Emma Stone.
So, here are my awards for Oscar fashion:
Best Dressed Woman: Gemma Chan
Her Valentino dress was amazing. I loved the style and the color. So high fashion. The design made me think I could wear it. And like everyone else, I loved the pockets. The Bulgari jewelry was lovely, adding to the overall look and her makeup and low bob was perfect.
Honorable Mention: Kacey Musgraves
She was pink perfection in a Giambattista Valli tulle gown. The shoulders, levels of tulle in the skirt and most importantly the sleeves with the puffs of tulle at the wrist were perfection. Her brooch at the waist was a delightful touch and the long low pony tail was just the right look for her face and the dress.
Worst Dressed Woman: SZA
I don’t want to name someone just to put something in this box. I will say that SZA looked like she was wearing a mixture between a wedding gown and lace curtains.
Best Dressed Man: Henry Golding
His Ralph Lauren formal white tie tux was totally Oscars. I’d rather take him home than the trophy.
Honorable Mention: Adam Lampert
He looked totally rocker hot in his tux with no tie, the orchard in the buttonhole and open-cuff sleeves.
Worst Dressed Man: Nicholas Hoult
Again, I would have to work to find someone though I didn’t understand Nicholas Hoult’s tux.
Best Hair: Linda Cardellini
I just loved the height and how it worked with the extreme ruffles of her Schiaparelli gown.
Best Jewelry: Lady Gaga
Her 128-carat yellow Tiffany diamond necklace made her Alexander McQueen gown memorable.
Most Original Outfit: Billy Porter
His tuxedo dress by Christian Siriano was truly fashion forward.
I've had lots of fun covering the awards fashions this year. Hope you enjoyed reading my perspective.
