Are You Ready for Gen Z?

When I wake up the first thing I do is check my online news feeds. I was excited to see one from Bloomberg’s discussing the Generation Z cohort. According to Bloomberg’s, this group, between the age of seven and 22 is “preoccupied with brand loyalty and online grocery shopping and a penchant for social media influencers.” This group has grown up online with parents who put an iPad in front of them to keep them occupied. Oh, and they like weed.
Since we live in Colorado and are a pot-friendly household, we have suddenly become very popular with our nieces and nephews and every time my millennial daughter comes home the party is at our house. It’s fun and keeps us young. We also choose to downsize into a family-oriented neighborhood so we live among the Generation Z and their parents. Great test group..
If you are entrepreneurial, and I hope you are, it will be important to understand this group as Bloomberg states they have a $143 billion buying power. As you are looking at your business plan, think about how your product or service will interest them and your marketing strategy for reaching them because it better be brand building and online. Not the easiest thing to do.
